NEW ENGLAND’S “LUCKY FOR LIFE” LOTTERY GAME TO GET A LOT MORE LIVELY

Connecticut LotterySeptember 5, 2013

A $25,000 a year for life second prize will soon be added to the multi-state draw game that offers a chance to win up to $1,000 a day, every day, for a lifetime!

Lucky for Life, the multi-state draw game that offers lottery players throughout New England the opportunity to win up to $1,000 a day, every day, for their entire life, is going to get a lot more “lively” with the addition of another lifetime prize to its robust prize offerings.

Beginning with the September 19, 2013 drawing, Lucky for Life’s second-tier prize will be elevated to a $25,000 a year for life payout, making it the only game in the country that offers two lifetime prizes. This new prize will replace the game’s current second prize – a one-time, lump sum payment of $25,000.

“We’ve spoken extensively to Lucky for Life players across New England and it comes as no surprise – they want more ways to win prizes of a lifetime,” said Paul Sternburg, Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery. “The changes that we will be introducing this fall will provide players with what they’re asking for – more lifetime prizes.”

Lucky for Life launched in March 2012 and is the first, and only, lottery game to be played in all six New England states. In its 18 months in the marketplace, the game has produced seven top prize winners and over 150 second prize winners.

Lucky for Life will continue to offer players 10 total ways to win. With the addition of this exciting new prize, players will now choose their first five numbers from a field of 43 and one (1) Lucky Ball number out of a field of 43. Those matching all six numbers drawn will still win the game’s $1,000 a day for life top prize, while those matching the first five numbers drawn will win the new $25,000 a year for life second prize. Both “for life” prizes will be guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years, but will continue to be paid out for the duration of each winner’s lifetime – so winners who live long lives, will win more!

In addition to its coveted lifetime prizes, Lucky for Life also features other desirable cash prizes ranging from $3,000 to $2. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 8.6. A lump sum option will be offered on the lifetime prizes, all lower-tiered prizes are paid out in one-time, lump sum payments.

Lucky for Life tickets are $2 each and can be purchased at Lottery retailers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. All winning tickets must be redeemed in the state they were purchased.

Drawings are held every Monday and Thursday at 10:38 p.m. in Connecticut and aired live on FOX CT/Channel 61 in Hartford with game results and drawing videos posted here as well as on the respective websites of the six participating state lotteries.

Hanover, Mass. man claims top prize in new Lucky For Life lottery game

winnerMarch 20, 2012

Bruce Campbell, 39, wins $1,000 a day, every day, for the rest of his life

A 39 year-old Hanover, Massachusetts man today claimed the first top prize in the new multi-state lottery game “Lucky for Life.”

Bruce Campbell was awarded a ceremonial check for $1,000 a day for life by State Treasurer Steven Grossman at a press conference held this afternoon at the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Braintree headquarters. Campbell won the prize after matching all six numbers drawn (1-2-6-10-19, Lucky Ball 15) in Lucky for Life’s inaugural drawing on Thursday, March 15. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the game’s top prize are just over 1 in 13.8 million.

Campbell stopped into Myette’s Country Store in Hanover last Thursday, the day of Lucky for Life’s first drawing, and asked the store owner for a suggestion on what Lottery game to play. Tracy Myette Brown, who was a high school classmate of the frequent customer, suggested he try the new Lucky for Life game, so Campbell filled out a bet slip using numbers significant to him – birthdays, including his own, and an old hockey number.

The following day, Campbell received a Facebook message from Myette Brown directing him to check his numbers because her store sold the winning ticket. Campbell, who works as a plumber, was in his van having lunch when he phoned into the store to inquire. After reading the numbers on his ticket to Kevin Brown, the owner’s husband, Campbell was stunned to learn he was the game’s top prize winner. He never finished his lunch, but he soon headed to a nearby bank to put the winning ticket in a safe deposit box. Campbell’s $1,000 a day for life prize, which will be paid out on a weekly basis, is guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years, but will be paid out for the duration of his lifetime. When asked if he had big plans for his winnings, Campbell said he will invest for the future. He did reveal that he and his longtime girlfriend Dawn will be splurging on a Cadillac and a new Harley motorcycle, but beyond that he “will remain the same hard-working blue collar guy that he’s always been.”

Myette’s Country Store also benefitted from Campbell’s luck. The store received $50,000 for selling the winning ticket – the maximum Lottery retailer commission in Massachusetts. Myette’s, a fifth-generation, family-owned business, has been a licensed retailer since the Lottery’s inception 40 years ago.
